Kit Breakdown – My Pocket Carry

I thought it might be helpful to do some posts breaking down my usual EDC (Every Day Carry). I’ll include a photo of what I carry, a description and explanation, and links to get you started on finding your own.

My ‘Pocket’ Carry

My “pocket dump”. Not pictured – my cash and coins, and my cell phone.

Breakdown

Included in my EDC pocket carry are:

  • The Big Three – keys, phone, wallet. This is the most basic EDC that everyone probably carries already. (My phone is out of the picture…because it took the picture) I have been using the Keysmart Key Holder for years now – it keeps my keys slim and organized. The plastic ones eventually wear out, but the titanium version has been worth the price.
  • The Silent Hero – the handkerchief. This is a key piece for me. Whether I’m wiping off a wet bench, cleaning a kid’s dirty hands, or tying up a bundle of loose items, I’ve found so many ways to use these. As a father, I’ve even had my kids just ask to hold onto it while I’m away or they’re napping (of course I have spares to share).
  • The Multitool – what’s better than a knife? A knife that also has pliers, screw drivers, different blades, a bottle/can opener, and more. This thing comes in handy quite often. (It’s also a big ego boost to be able to pull it out and fix something quick when hanging out with friends or family) My go to is Leatherman, and I am currently using the Sidekick model.
  • The Pen – it might not actually be mightier than a sword with my writing skills, but I can carry this on a plane or around the mall without weird looks or a license. It’s not just a reliable writing instrument when I need one; it’s also all stainless steel and could double as a security tool or weapon. This is the Zebra F-701 – a great writing instrument and a solid tool for a good price.
  • The Watch – there are a lot of great watches out there. Find something that suits you and gives you what you need. With all the apps on my phone, I find a simple one displaying time and date works great for me. I have had the Timex in the photo for a decade or so. It’s not fancy or expensive, but it has lasted through several band changes, three jobs, and a lot of international travel.
  • The…Hair Bands? – as a father of all girls this might actually be my most used EDC item after my phone. I’ve had the privilege of saving my family from many “hair emergencies” because I always keep a couple of these in my pocket. If you have a wife, girlfriend, or daughter in the picture I highly recommend carrying some around so you can save the day.

So that’s what I carry in my pockets on a regular day outside of the house. In addition to this pocket carry, I also have an over the shoulder bag that goes with me when I leave the house, and a backpack for bigger excursions. Stay tuned for upcoming posts on those.
