Have you ever found yourself on the way somewhere, perhaps running a little late, and you realize your gas tank is about to hit ‘E’? Anyone else get annoyed at having to take time out of a busy day to go to the gas station?
This week’s security tip, like all the tips I give, is intended to help in practical daily life – not just emergencies.
Fill up your gas tank when it is half empty
I know, it sounds unnecessary – didn’t I just acknowledge how annoying a trip to the gas station is when you’re trying to get other things done?
But here’s the thing – if you start looking for a convenient time to fill up when you hit half a tank, I guarantee that you’ll do so before you hit empty. And by giving yourself this buffer, you will reduce the stress your future self will experience. No longer will you be running late and get surprised by that Low Fuel light turning on.
From a security perspective, planning for the future like this also has it’s benefits. When a crisis happens, you know you always have half a tank of gas in the car. So, at a moments notice, you can jump in the car and get somewhere quick, day or night.
I personally have made multiple middle of the night emergency room runs for family and friends. And, because I always start looking to refill the gas tank when it is half empty, I never need to worry about being low on gas during an emergency situation. My entire focus goes to the primary issue.
